Proper alignment of flanges is needed for optimum
performance. The V-retainer coupling assists with initial alignment
and sealing of flanges during installation. On difficult applications,
dry film lubrication can be added to inside of V-retainer to aid
in alignment. Final flange sealing is achieved by compressive deflection
and metal-to-metal contact over the entire area of the machined
face. No gasket is required.

Alignment on
Tight Radius Flanges |
Ideal alignment is shown
on this view of the tight radius flanges. When properly aligned and
tightened, there should be a gap between the outer diameter of the
flange and coupling and between the coupling feet and flange skirt.
This is to ensure that necessary loading of coupling is reached
before "bottoming out" on the flanges.

|
Sometimes, alignment of large radius
flanges is accomplished by V-retainer seating on the outer diameter
of the flange. Generally, the coupling feet should not "bottom
out" on the flange skirt.
