Medical Imaging Crystal Panel

Voss is generally known for our specialized clamps and couplings. However, quite often, we are called upon to manufacture exotic metal fabrications with specification that few companies can deliver. This was the case when our customer approached Voss for our hydroforming expertise to make this curved aluminum panel. However, bulge forming turned out not to be an option and a method of stamping and welding was used instead.

The customer would then attach layer of crystals to the inside of a curved glass and seal it to the panel. The challenge for Voss was not only to keep the tolerances of the part in conformance with the glass cover, but also to weld the ends so that they would be visually appealing and leakproof. This was a difficult task since the material edge is only 0.050 inch thick. The job was successfully completed within the required specifications.

This precision stamped and welded aluminum panel is used to mount a layer of crystals used in MRI equipment.

These crystals lay above the Voss panel in the final product. Six of these segments form a full ring which enables a full view of the human body.
